"...but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect." - 1 Peter 3:15
Working with Youth With A Mission has been one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives. However, we understand that the nature of our work has at times left others with questions regarding "how?" and "why?" we do what we do. Our hope is that the following discussion will help bring clarity and understanding to those new to our ministry.
WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?
In short, we believe in the good news of Jesus Christ for all mankind, and therefore are compelled by his mandate to go into all the world making disciples of every nation. While Andrew was raised in the Anglican tradition of worship, and Rachel from a more charismatic background, we adhere to YWAM's foundational value of being interdenominational--focusing on the commonalities between us and others in the body of Christ to complete The Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20). For a more comprehensive look into what we believe, you can find YWAM's statement of faith here.
Why DON'T WE RECEIVE A SALARY?
YWAM has operated under relationship-based support ever since it's inception in 1960, yet the idea of living financially supported by others has long been considered counter cultural in the Western world. Peter Warren (founder of YWAM Denver) offers a great explanation as to how this lifestyle is not only biblically based, but an ideal system that God Himself set up to provide for those in full-time ministry.
what do donations go towards?
All donations made towards our ministry are used primarily for our necessary living expenses (food, rent, bills, etc...). Yet as we've continued in ministry, other opportunities to have presented themselves as well. Some needs we're currently trusting the Lord for provision are:
- Travel: We've often been invited to teach in other training schools across YWAM internationally, as well as lead worship for different events and conferences throughout the year. Often, finances are the determining factor in whether or not we can accept these invitations.
- A new house: We are outgrowing our current living situation, and it's on our hearts to eventually purchase a new house of our own. Recently, Denver's housing market has reached higher than any other city in the nation, but we know with God all things are possible.
- Recording: For years, we have dreamed of recording original songs for a live or studio album. Many of our experiences leading worship hold memories that we wish we could share with our friends and family outside of our community.
If you feel led to contribute to either our monthly support, or make a one time gift towards any of these needs, you can do so here (all contributions made are tax deductible).
